Suicide
is the intentional ending of one's own life or attempts. Risk factors may include depression, previous attempts, alcohol/substance abuse, social support loss, rational thinking loss, chronic illness or hopelessness.

Anyone acutely suicidal should be hospitalized. Intensive outpatient follow-up and finding adequate social support is necessary. Anti-depressant medicines are helpful. There are numerous suicide hotlines to access such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
