Alcoholism
is continued alcohol use despite significant social, mental and physical dysfunction. Common signs are tolerance (drinking large amounts of alcohol), withdrawal and persistent use despite problems including legal, work and social/family. Risk factors may include family history, depression, anxiety, poverty and family dysfunction.

Treatment can be inpatient, outpatient, AA Meetings/12 step programs and should involve family.
